Heart to Hearts (1988)

Alex (George Lam) is a producer, and he has a girlfriend (Rosamund Kwan) but isn't quite working out. Vivian (Vivian Chow) is a college student living with her mother (Do Do Cheng). She meets Alex and Alex asks if she can record a song. In the mean time Alex breaks up with his girlfriend, and hooks up with Vivian's mother. It's a not so typical day in the life in Hong Kong for all of them, but somehow everything works out. This is one of the best light hearted love romance + comedy movie done expertly by great Hong Kong talents. Vivian Chow makes her movie debut, as she's poised to be one of the premier Hong Kong's singer actress for the next 10 years.

The Magnificent Scoundrels (1991)

Shing (Chow) and Betty ( Mo) are two hapless cons who find themselves competing against each other in a game of one-upmanship. However, Betty is in serious debt to a group of loan sharks and when she is seen together with Shing the debt becomes their combined problem. Forced to remain together, the two concoct a plan to break into a rich man's house whilst he is away. Unbeknownst to them though, the loans sharks have also instructed their own man (Wu Ma) to steal antiques from the same house. As if this wasn't farcical enough, when rumours of a rich cousin getting into town filter through, one giant scheme is undertaken by all concerned to fool the man into handing over his hard earned cash. The question is, will any of these idiots actually emerge with any money?

In this movie, Donnie Yen and Rosamond Kwan are on the run from cops and drug dealers after they are framed for murder. This movie has a lot of great fights including Donnie Yen and John Salvitti fighting with swords and a fight with Michael Woods. These are classic fight scenes. Anyone who likes martial arts movies should check this out.

Perfect Match (1989)

A screwball comedy set in the boardrooms and hallways of a fiercely competitive toy company, where employees vie for the top management position while trading verbal barbs and romantic overtures: according to the passed director of the Lok's Toy Company, his properties were divided to his nieces Kei and Sing. However, Sing's share will be temporarily held by Kei until she marries. Sing then sends his followers to date Kei and hopes she will soon get married. However, all of them fail because Kei falls in love with the company's chief designer. Finally, after solving certain misunderstandings, Sing realizes his fault and decides to run the business on his own.

Jailhouse Eros (1990) was an Amy Yip starring vehicle. She plays Chesty, an inmate inside a women's correctional facility. Unlike other jail houses, this one is haunted by a couple of ghosts (one's a good fairy and the other one is mean and nasty). The ghostly problem has gotten so bad that the female prisoners have banded together against the evil ghost. But the head guard has a plan. He'll bring in some professional tao priests who'll chase the spirits away. Can the "priest" do the job?

The Perfect Match (1991)

This is a fairly warped HK comedy about a conductor named Koo (George Lam) who comes back to Hong Kong to perform. Along with annoying relatives, he also meets up with petty thieves Jacky and Philldonna. Jacky's sister is Carrie, played by the always engaging Maggie Cheung. Koo and Carrie meet and though their getting together is somewhat illogical it still happens. Also in the film is the recently departed Lydia Shum, who plays Philldonna's mom Madonna (a cute idea). Worth watching because George Lam, Maggie Cheung and Lydia Shum are always worth watching.

Her Vengeance (1988)

Ying is horribly gang-raped by five lowlives, leaving her with VD, and she plans revenge, encouraged by her blind sister, but initially discouraged by family friend wheelchair-bound Hung. She starts regardless, and those around her are gradually drawn in. These include a journalist who would be her boyfriend and Susan, who works at the same bar. Not everything goes to plan. For instance, Ying fails to kill one of the toughs after successfully burning his face with acid. Only one character is left standing at the end, and all who die, die horribly.

But all of his credit should go to his mistreated joke writer (Tommy Wong). Instead of paying him the money he truly deserves, James Wong short changes him every chance he can get. His personal life is a mess as well. He has a hot wife (Amy Yip) whom he can't satisfy and no friends. One day Tommy has enough of James' abuse and heads off on his own. A funny movie that's worth seeking out.

Forever Young (1989)

Five orphans. Five friends. They grow up. Still good friends. They travel to Thailand where a witch doctor invented a brew which returns one to childhood permanently. Robbers attack and force the five to test the brew. Rescue comes after of them have shrunk into child sizes, leaving Bo the only adult. The doctor forgets now to reverse the process and the quintet return to Hong Kong. Teacher Miss Wong takes the four children into a primary school. They help uncover the ugly designs of Wong's boyfriend Foo. Bo is suspected of murdering his four friends. The four turn to Miss Wong for help. Foo tries to kidnap them. The witch doctor appears in time with the antidote. The five fight off Foo and become better friends.

It's a Drink! It's a Bomb! (1985)

An illegal dealing of a soda-canned bomb between a crooked Hong Kong cop and two Japanese traffickers goes bad after an associate decides to go against their plans. Afterward, the incident brings together three witnesses mixed into the plot: a suave rock scientist (George Lam), a wisecracking taxi driver/police officer (John Sham) and an overzealous biker (Maggie Cheung). They must team up to locate the missing bomb before it falls in the hands of the dealers.

Forbidden Arsenal (1991) aka In The Line of Duty 6

Hong Kong super cop Madam Yeung (Cynthia Khan) meets two undercover cops, Taiwanese Cheng (Waise Lee) and Mainlander Hua (Too Siu Chun), in an operation against an arms-smuggling ring headed by Marco. For political reasons, the Hong Kong police demand Cheng and Hua to stop their investigations and leave the Crown Colony, and assign Madam Yeung to watch over them, who are in constant conflicts due to their backgrounds. Cheng begin to develop romantic feelings for Madam Yeung, while Hua finds himself attracted to Marco's sister Edna (Loletta Lee). Can the law-enforcing trio overcome their differences and join forces to bust the underground arsenal?

The Owl vs Bombo (1984)

Another good comedy-martial arts film from Sammo Hung. Sammo Hung and George Lam are two robbers who, after a major robbery decide to go clean. However, they are forced to work together for a volunteer association, run by a weird sounding Deanne Yip, when a policeman, Stanley Fung, sends a letter to them each threatening to expose their roles in the robbery. Typical of Hung's films, there are great fight scenes, like the impressive end ones. An interesting fight scene was Stanley Fung vs Sammo Hung, with Fung showing he's not bad with a broom stick.
