Stooges in Hong Kong (1992)

James Wong stars as a late night talk show host who tells some of the dirtiest jokes and is insanely popular. His show is the biggest rated late night show on television. But all of his credit should go to his mistreated joke writer (Tommy Wong). Instead of paying him the money he truly deserves, James Wong short changes him every chance he can get. His personal life is a mess as well. He has a hot wife (Amy Yip) whom he can't satisfy and no friends. One day Tommy has enough of James' abuse and heads off on his own. A funny movie that's worth seeking out.

Forever Young (1989)

Five orphans. Five friends. They grow up. Still good friends. They travel to Thailand where a witch doctor invented a brew which returns one to childhood permanently. Robbers attack and force the five to test the brew. Rescue comes after of them have shrunk into child sizes, leaving Bo the only adult. The doctor forgets now to reverse the process and the quintet return to Hong Kong. Teacher Miss Wong takes the four children into a primary school. They help uncover the ugly designs of Wong's boyfriend Foo. Bo is suspected of murdering his four friends. The four turn to Miss Wong for help. Foo tries to kidnap them. The witch doctor appears in time with the antidote. The five fight off Foo and become better friends.

It's a Drink! It's a Bomb! (1985)

An illegal dealing of a soda-canned bomb between a crooked Hong Kong cop and two Japanese traffickers goes bad after an associate decides to go against their plans. Afterward, the incident brings together three witnesses mixed into the plot: a suave rock scientist (George Lam), a wisecracking taxi driver/police officer (John Sham) and an overzealous biker (Maggie Cheung). They must team up to locate the missing bomb before it falls in the hands of the dealers.

Forbidden Arsenal (1991) aka In The Line of Duty 6

Hong Kong super cop Madam Yeung (Cynthia Khan) meets two undercover cops, Taiwanese Cheng (Waise Lee) and Mainlander Hua (Too Siu Chun), in an operation against an arms-smuggling ring headed by Marco. For political reasons, the Hong Kong police demand Cheng and Hua to stop their investigations and leave the Crown Colony, and assign Madam Yeung to watch over them, who are in constant conflicts due to their backgrounds. Cheng begin to develop romantic feelings for Madam Yeung, while Hua finds himself attracted to Marco's sister Edna (Loletta Lee). Can the law-enforcing trio overcome their differences and join forces to bust the underground arsenal?

The Owl vs Bombo (1984)

Another good comedy-martial arts film from Sammo Hung. Sammo Hung and George Lam are two robbers who, after a major robbery decide to go clean. However, they are forced to work together for a volunteer association, run by a weird sounding Deanne Yip, when a policeman, Stanley Fung, sends a letter to them each threatening to expose their roles in the robbery. Typical of Hung's films, there are great fight scenes, like the impressive end ones. An interesting fight scene was Stanley Fung vs Sammo Hung, with Fung showing he's not bad with a broom stick.

She Starts The Fire (1992)

This film is probably most famous for the cover picture of Chingmy wearing a short skirt being blown up ala Marilyn Monroe in Seven Year Itch. This film has more going for it than this scene - as it has a number of humorous bits and Chingmy looks very cute throughout. She comes to live in HK with her relative Deannie Yip. Her landlord is Lawrence Cheng and his sister DoDo Cheng has an ongoing feud with Deannie. Chingmy also has these supernatural powers such as being able to start fires - literally - and cheat at cards. It's all pretty funny.

Merry Christmas (1984)

This light hearted comedy is very entertaining, and very funny. This film is about a father with three children, two boys and a girl, and how the kids help him find love. The girl is played by Loletta Lee in an early role and you can already see her blossoming into a beauty. Karl Maka plays the father and he is just all over the place. The older son tries to help his dad by giving him advice, but sometimes the star of the show is the two year old Junior. His expressions, his little mannerisms are all funny. He gets some of the best laughs. There is, thankfully, Paula Tsui, who plays, literally, the lady next door Paula, whom the father's kids are trying to fix him up with. I don't know why he didn't try before, she's cute and sweet, but this is a comedy so these things have to play by their own rules. This comedy works because it doesn't lose focus. There are funny pranks, lots of running around, lots of shouting and, when you need it, a little warmth.

To Spy With Love (1990)

A band features rook enthusiast Teddy and his four bosomy playgirls have just signed into a rook bar when the trouble starts. Teddy finds a dying girl Yap in his car. The girl has just pasted the treasure map onto Teddy’s poster before she dies, but Teddy didn’t know it. Two Japanese hitmen, who are hired to get spy Yap and the map misunderstand that Teddy is also a spy, so they start to follow him. The inspector Nina and a beautiful woman Hu also want Teddy for the map. At the same time, Teddy is enamored by inspector Nina. Having survived from all traps and attacks, Teddy realizes the importance of the map. He surrenders it to Nina, and back to rook merrily along with his playgirls.

My Young Auntie (1981)

Successful director Liu Chia-liang (a.k.a. Lau Kar-leung)'s films usually had a strong traditional emphasis on martial virtue and the importance of family. This is very evident in his kung-fu comedy My Young Auntie which stars Hui Ying-hung as a young heiress to an esteemed kung-fu family embroiled in internal strife. Her gutsy and dauntless performance opposite Liu's starring role as her calm to psychotic elderly nephew-by-marriage, earned Hui the Best Actress Award at the 1981 HK Film Awards.

My Family (1986)

The family in question is burbling along quite nicely, with some teenage mini-crises (cantopop singer Lui Fong trying to impress a girl, May Lo trying to be cool at school) until mother Fung Bo Bo decides to join an actors club. Not only does she win the main role, she attracts the eye of director Billy Lau and tips the family's world into chaos.
